The title is a play on the play, “The Iceman Cometh”, by Eugene O’Neill. It’s about a group of drunks opining about “the good O’l days” and their delusions about a better future.
Much like the play we look back when life didn’t cost as much as it does today. Taxes, though always met with distain, weren’t nearly as high as they are today. But the fact is you simply can’t get out of “rendering unto Ceasar what is Caesars”. That is unless you’re an illegal immigrant.
Last year we had to pay thousands of dollars to Uncle Sam because I took out money from my 401k. It just didn’t seem right that after all these years of hard work that the government required so much of MY money. However, this year we were actually getting a refund. Consequently, we filed early in hopes of getting a quicker turn time. That didn’t happen.
Six weeks had gone by when we received a letter from the IRS stating that we needed to “verify” our identity. The letter stated that we would not get our return until we did. But the way that’s done now is via smartphone.
We followed the instructions carefully. We took pictures of our DL, both front and back. We sent them the requested codes that they sent to our cell phones and emails. We answered the personal questions that only we ourselves would know. Then we took selfies and did a facial recognition video. It was the weirdest thing.They scanned of faces and we watched the software record all of the crevasses of our faces. But in the end we received confirmation that the government was convinced that we were who we claimed to be. We tried to look at it a positive light. “Well that’s just part of being a U.S.
citizen.” And, “Well at least the government is careful not to send our refund to someone else who would not be entitled to have it.” I mean, the government wouldn’t dare send our hard earned tax dollars to those who didn’t deserve it. Would they? Wrong!
While we did get our refund it was disconcerting to find out that millions of our collective tax dollars were going to illegal immigrants. And while we had to prove who we were to receive our tax refund, these lawbreakers are not required to reveal who they are to receive benefits from our government.
Just recently a man was arrested for putting “I did that”, Joe Biden stickers on a gas pump in Pennsylvania. So this man gets arrested for putting stickers on a gas pump and illegals who breech our southern border get free cellphones? And it’s not just cellphones. They get chartered plane rides to go to a state and city of their choosing. Many get put up in my nice hotels complete with room service. Additionally, they receive free healthcare, food, baby formula, diapers, and whatever else they may need. Mind you, these lawbreakers haven’t paid a cent in taxes but get government subsides. And since the government doesn’t produce goods or services it’s “we the people” who are giving our tax money to take care of them. This is a grave injustice.
The Taxman Cometh for us but not for the illegal immigrants. The government makes us prove who we are before we get our money, but illegals get our money without revealing who they are. Meanwhile, most of us are just trying to keep our heads above water in the midsts of record breaking inflation. We need to hold our corrupt leadership accountable and vote them out of office!
