I felt to digress this morning from the topic at hand.
Our society in America has many problems. But I will tell you, it’s not guns. It’s not lack of opportunity. It’s not because we’re in need of more money, education or anything else. It’s because America has forsaken God. And now need something else has to take his place.
This has left us with a society devoid of absolutes. It has left us unable to answer the two primary age old questions, “who am I?”, and “why am I here?” Or as Scott Stapp of Creed writes, “what’s this life for?” And without conclusive answers to these questions, and with no direction, we are all lost and confused. In short, we are looking for God or a god in all the wrong places. We are looking for something that defines us and gives our life meaning and purpose. Fame, money, sexual pleasures, riches and material things only give us a temporary relief at best. But I will tell you this, until we find it we’ll be like ships on the ocean of life without a map, compass, or a defined destination.
In the 1960s the cry was, “we’ve got to get back to the garden” (a reference to the Garden of Eden.) But it’s not the garden we need to get back to. It’s the God who created the garden.
