Peace is one of those things, that if pursued makes it that much more difficult to attain. Peace to me is a restful state of being, free from worry, anxiety, fear, or troubling thoughts.

Sometimes, going to, or being in a particular setting better enables me to be in a peaceful state of mind. That’s why people want to live near a lake, river, or the ocean. That’s why people who can afford it like to live in a place that has a view of green hills, lush valleys or mountains. Usually up high over looking a beautiful landscape. If you’ve ever noticed those who can afford to  often build houses high up on a particular hillside. I’m sure you’ve heard someone say, “that’s a million dollar view.”

While being in a particular geographical place can help facilitate a peaceful state of being, it’s still possible to be in such an environment and still not have inner peace. One than must reduce then that peace is a state of mind. It’s a mindset of inner rest free from all anxiety, worry, cares, and the nagging pressures of life. The Bible tells us that the person of Jesus is, “the prince of peace.” I’ve seen a slogan that read, “no Jesus, no peace”. By resting in and trusting Jesus completely we can have peace. When we allow, fears, apprehensions, and worry to take control of our thought life, it won’t matter where we are geographicly ,we will not have inner peace. The Bible tells us, “there is no fear in love; those who fear have not been made perfect in love, for fear has torment.”

Knowing the person of Jesus, trusting in his loving care for us; knowing that he always has our best interest at heart; that he’ll provide for everything we need; we can rest and inhale his peace.

The reality is we live in a fallen sinful world and we’re surrounded by dangerous people under the control of Satan himself, but even in such a world as this, we can know Jesus and know peace.
