Pandemic, Pandemonium & Pansies.
24/7 the media is propagating panic and fear with their incessant
coverage of the Coronavirus. It’s likened to state run TV in communist
countries. This has caused mass hysteria, which has led to hoarding. It’s
nearly impossible to find toilet paper, hand sanitizer, bathroom sanitizing
wipes, over the counter cold medications, and even Vitamin C. Many
so-called Christians have bought into the hysteria and are acting just like
the world, out of pure unmitigated fear!
What message is that sending to the world? Surely it’s not one of
trusting in Christ. They either have forgotten or just don’t believe, “they
shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt
them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:18.
What do so many fear? The obvious answer is the fear of contracting
Covid-19 and dying. Death is to be avoided at all costs. The preservation of
life is paramount and are willing to sacrifice all their freedom for such. Can
you imagine if the Lord himself, the prophets of old, and the first century
church had this same mentality?
How about the martyrs? What if Daniel and his friends had this
mentality? Further, imagine that of Queen Esther? Instead of, “if I perish, I
perish” She said, “OMG he would just kill me! I’d really like to help you out.
Really I would. I mean, I don’t want my people to be destroyed, but I’m
afraid I can’t help you…stay safe!”
Think for a minute, the message that is sent to the unsaved. Follow
me as I follow Christ- all way up til I may die- then all bets are off. No, I’m not
advocating throwing caution to the wind, act unwisely, or take unnecessary
risks, but acting out of fear and panic is not Christ-like!
Now I know this is going to seem harsh, but simply put a lot of us are
acting like pansies! This country was founded on, and defended by, strong,
tough, self sacrificing Patriots. Remember the phrase, “Give me liberty or
give me death”? Well today it’s more like, “Go ahead, take my liberty, but
by God, let me live!”
Soon it will be the 4th of July. You know the day we celebrate our
independence and all the freedoms we enjoy. Freedoms that many, many
fought and DIED for. I just wonder how many of us can look in the mirror
and ask, “am I a patriot or a pansy?” It was Ben Franklin who once said,
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary
Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
So then, it’s up to you. Are you going to buy into all the media hype,
fear and panic, or are you going to live fearless and free?
If the former, FYI- I hear Dollar General just got a shipment of Toilet
paper in.
Better get going!
